About Us

Owen & Associates is a family-owned, minority (women) owned company.  Kelly Owen McCall is a Registered Professional Reporter through the National Court Reporters Association and a Florida Professional Reporter through the Florida Court Reporters Association.  She was appointed as the Official Court Reporter for Marion County in 1992 and is an active reporter in the firm.  Kelly has been covering civil and criminal proceedings since 1984 in the state of Florida, including class action and malpractice suits, State of Florida death penalty proceedings, and working with the Federal Official Court Reporter providing daily copy/realtime services for the U.S. versus Wesley Snipes trial this year.

Shelly Owen Heatherdale acts is our office manager.  Shelly has served as President, Legal Pad editor, and Education Seminar Chairperson in the Marion County Legal Support Association.   Along with Kelly, she has conducted seminar classes on how attorneys can most effectively utilize reporters and also control costs.

Our reporters are some of the most best in our area.  We ONLY use experienced, nationally and/or certified personnel who are all knowledgeable in State and local procedures.

All transcription from audio is performed by in-house transcriptionists.  We do not contract out transcription to overseas companies.

Owen & Associates holds contracts with the Fifth Judicial Circuit  of Florida to cover death penalty and other felony proceedings conducted at the Marion County Judicial Center.  We also are the official overflow reporters for the local Federal Courthouse, covering proceedings with both the magistrate and district judges.  In addition, we are service providers for the local U.S. Attorney General’s Office, as well as the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida State Attorney’s Office and Public Defender’s Office.

Although Owen & Associates does contract work with these various governmental agencies, we do not contract with insurance companies or 1-800 network agencies.  This keeps us in the neutral, impartial position that we believe court reporting firms should ethically be in.  Our non-contract position also allows us to keep your costs down.  There is no 1-800 middle-man rate added to your bill.
